Deze video is onderdeel van een grotere kunst installatie getiteld ‘Remains Of Today’.
Deze video neemt je mee naar ‘life’ in de letterlijke , fast lane, (de Zuidas, Amsterdam). Dit verkeer wat voorbij raast is vastgelegd terwijl ik op de trein stond te wachten. Dit werd het décor of de achtergrond voor de verstomde maar overduidelijk pratende Andy Warhol. Ondanks dat zijn beroemde woorden over roem nooit op bewegend beeld zijn vastgelegd bewegen zijn lippen toch suggererend dat hij deze woorden spreekt. Daarna voer ik David Bowie ten tonele, op een catwalk, als een omhooggevallen diva die geagiteerd zijn/haar lippenstift over zijn/haar wang uitsmeert, als het perfecte rolmodel om deze Warhol statement te ondersteunen. En er is een kleine verrassing in de outro.
Ik heb deze beelden heel postmodernistisch gestolen uit de video, Boys Keep Swinging en een interview met Andy Warhol, niettemin het droste-effect, is het (video) kunst in haar eigen recht. Dit is een van de voordelen van deze postmodernistische tijden.
Dit kan gezien worden als zowel een hommage aan beide mannen als een kritische noot over onze hedendaagse samenleving.
Remains Of Today is een serie van meer dan 100 kleine communicerende kunstwerken. Gemaakt van onder andere straatafval. Muzikant en producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. heeft de soundtracks gemaakt bij de individuele kunstwerken. Om het te completeren heb ik er dan weer een videoclip bij gemaakt. Mijn stem die Fame zingt is een speciale feature in deze video.

De subregel “Makes a man take things over” is tevens ontleent aan het refrein van het zelfde nummer. Dit is een combinatie van beelden, tekst en een parallel naar Popart- kunstenaar, en Bowie vriend, Andy Warhol. Zijn statement ‘In the future everyone will be (world) famous for 15 minutes’, blijkt met terugwerkende kracht de spijker op zijn kop. Was Warhol een visionair?
En had hij toen enig idee van de omvang van dit concept in de echte wereld? Hebben wij dat eigenlijk?

This video is part of the greater art installation of ‘Remains Of Today’.
This video takes you to life on a literal, fast lane, (de Zuidas, Amsterdam). This ‘traffic rushing by’ was captured while I was waiting on my train. This became the stage or background setting for a silenced but obviously talking Andy Warhol. Although his famous words about fame are never recorded, his lips are moving and suggesting he is preaching these words. Second, David Bowie, walking the catwalk as a ‘stuck up’ diva, agitated, wiping his lipstick all over his face, was the perfect role model to accommodate this Warhol statement. And there is a little surprise in the outro…
I stole these images in a very post-modernistic way, from the video clip Boys Keep Swinging and from an interview with Warhol, and nonetheless the droste-effect, again, it is art in its own right. This is one of the benefits of making art in postmodern times.
This can be seen as a tribute to both men and a critical remark on contemporary society at the same time.
Remains Of Today is a series of more than 100 small communicating artworks made from (street) litter. Musician and producer Ali Reza Tahoeni a.k.a. A.R.T. made soundtracks of the individual artworks. To finalize it I made videoclips to accommodate these soundtracks. One special feature in this video is that I am the voice who cries Fame.

And there is a parallel to pop art artist, and Bowie friend, Andy Warhol. Warhol’s statement “In the future everyone will be (world) famous for 15 minutes”, seems spot on in hindsight. Was Warhol a visionary?
Did he have any idea of the magnitude of this concept in the here and now? Do we, really?
Bij deze presenteer ik mijn laatste (digitale) werk Starman. De eerste van de B-sides van de Heroes/Helden serie.

The B- sides
The B –sides – In het ontwerp/maakproces van de Helden/Heroes serie die ik nu The A- sides noem, ontstonden er verschillende scenario’s waarvan ik er uiteindelijk één koos als definitief beeld. Soms geen makkelijke keuze want de niet gebruikte beelden waren ook veelbelovend. Omdat deze serie over mijn helden en indirect over mijn leven gaat en ik geboren in 1970 mijn eerste gekochte albums op een pick-up draaide, heb ik de 2ereeks beelden vernoemd naar de B kant van een plaat, The B- sides dus. De eerste serie, de A- sides, zijn uitgebracht als limited editions 1/1. Dus allen uniek. Deze B-sides, omdat verschil er moet zijn, zijn ook limited maar dan een limited edition van 1/5. Iets minder uniek maar ook iets betaalbaarder dan the A –sides.

Helden/ Heroes series – The B-sides 120/80 cm limited 1/5
Ik ben de Helden/Heroes serie begonnen met ‘David Bowie’, getiteld Fame. Heroes is natuurlijk ook een verwijzing naar zijn Heroes album en nummer, dus in zekere zin is de hele serie op Bowie geïnspireerd. Fame was enigszins vervreemdend en de Bowie die hierin figureert eist de aandacht niet op. Met Starman zet ik hem in tweede instantie volop in het stralende middelpunt. Het beeld zit boordevol verwijzingen die elke Bowie fan direct herkent; Major Tom, Black Star, Starman, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Thin White Duke, Diamond Dogs. De aantrekkingskracht van iemand als David Bowie zit in zijn ongrijpbaarheid, zijn luciditeit en vloeibaarheid. Via zijn karakters kon hij een totaal performance oproepen. In deze personages nam hij je mee op reis in een magische wereld. Voor mij plaveide hij dus de weg naar het kunstenaarschap. En hij laat in zijn hele levensloop zien dat zijn grilligheid, artisticiteit, commerciële successen en flops, allemaal naast elkaar bestaan. Omdat een ware creatieve geest dwaalt en zoekt kan het nooit 100 % consistent zijn of in beton gegoten en blijft het shiften van vorm en inhoud. Met wisselend succes dus maar met de zekerheid dat het nooit ophoudt te creëren. Omdat het creëren de basis van zijn/haar bestaan vormt. Kunst in haar puurste vorm als je het mij vraagt.

Starman (English)
Hereby I present to you my latest digital artwork, Starman. The first of the B-sides of the Heroes/Helden Series.
The B- sides
The B –sides – in the making process of the Helden/ Heroes series, that I now call the A-sides, several scenario’s emerged at the same time. From this scenario’s I picked one final picture. No easy choice, some of the non-used images were also promising. Besides, because this series is about my heroes and thus implicit about my life and the fact that I was born in 1970 and my first bought albums were spinned on a pick-up, I named the second series the B-sides after the b- side of n LP. The B- sides! The first series, the A-sides are released as limited editions of 1/1, meaning they are all unique! The B-sides, are also limited but 1/5. They are only slightly less unique but also more affordable than the a-sides.

Helden/ Heroes series – The B-sides, 120/80 cm limited 1/5
I started the Helden/Heroes series with David Bowie, titled Fame. Heroes itself is also a cross reference with his album and song Heroes. I a way this whole series is inspired by Bowie. Fame was somewhat alienating and the Bowie featuring here is not drawing all attention. With Starman I place him in the spotlight. The image is loaded with links that would be recognized by any Bowie fan: Major Tom, Black Star, Starman, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Thin White Duke, Diamond Dogs. The appeal of someone like Bowie lies in his intangibility, elusiveness and fluidity. Trough his various personas he created a total experience. He guided you on his expeditions in a magical world. For me, he paved the road of becoming an artist. And he showed in his track record that that his whimsicality, artistry, commercial successes and flops all exist side by side. I think that a true creative mind that wonders and seeks, is never 100% consistent or mouldable and keeps on shifting in shape and content. Regardless of its success but with the insurance that it never stops creating. Creating is the fundament of his/her existence. If you ask me, this is art in its purest form.

Temporary Out Of Order is mijn homage aan mijn gebroken en gerepareerde elleboog. Het object in de bewerkte röntgenfoto is mijn eigen arm na operatie (2015). Ik belandde in de nacht van 31 oktober 2015 door een onzinnige en onverwachte actie op een Hooverboard in het ziekenhuis. Heel toevallig ook het ziekenhuis waar ik geboren ben, het St Jan in Hoorn. Diagnose, rug gekneusd en elleboog kapot. Om 04.00 s’nachts in de huur auto terug naar huis door de polder. Een rit waar geen einde aan leek te komen met duizenden rotondes. Eenmaal thuis heeft Erik het bed naar beneden gehaald waar ik vervolgens een maand in heb gelegen. Ik kon de eerste weken namelijk ook niet lopen
De elleboog werd na een week geopereerd(zie foto) en ik kon na een maand weer een beetje lopen. Daarna een half jaar ellende met dystrofie, een elleboog die niet meer wilden buigen een schouder die frozen was en een rug die vooral s’nachts protesteerde. Positiviteit was mijn motto maar die verdween toen ik de onmacht in de ogen van de fysio zag. Mijn grootste angst was dat ik nooit meer zou kunnen schilderen. Toen ik eenmaal weer een beetje ter been was ben ik zo goed en zo kwaad als dat ging weer naar atelier gegaan. Daar was dit het eerste kunstwerk wat ik met mijn onwillende arm in staat was te maken. Nu, doet alles het weer maar deze gebeurtenis staat in mijn geheugen gegrift. Soms kijk ik even naar mijn inmiddels weer gezonde arm en zeg ‘blij dat je er bent en fijn dat je het zo goed doet’.

Temporary Out Of Order- 2015- An Artwork A Day

Temporary Out Of Order is my homage to my broken and recovered elbow. The object in the picture is my own elbow after surgery. In the night of 31th October 2015 I made a nasty fall and ended up in the same hospital were I was born. What a coincidence. Diagnose, back bruised and elbow broken. At 04.00 s’ in the morning we drove home and endless drive. Once we got home, my partner collected the bed from upstairs to ground floor. I stayed in this bed for a month. I could not walk for a month.
The elbow was operated (see photo) and after a month I started walking a bit. Than dystrophy got a hold of my arm, an elbow that would not move for an inch, a shoulder that was frozen and a back that haunted me at night. Positivity was my motto but that gradually disappeared when I saw powerlessness in the eyes of the physiotherapist. My greatest fear was that I could never paint again. When I more or less functioned again, I started going to my atelier again. This was the first artwork that I was able to create with my unwilling arm. Now, everything is functional and strong again but this endeavor is carved in my memory. Sometime I glance at my recovered and healthy arm and say ” glad that your here and that you are functional!

2020 staat voor mij, naast Corona, moet ik bijna zeggen, in het teken van mijn 50 jarig bestaan op deze aarde. Ineens is het dan zover, mijn jeugd is voorbij ( : . Toen ik 30 werd zat ik midden in een coming of age- achtige burn out, toen ik 40 werd dacht ik dat waren de mooiste jaren en die liggen nu achter mij. Nu komt het onvermijdelijke verval. Dit zelf- portret getiteld Gloomy & 40 is in die gedachte gemaakt. Met een knipoog natuurlijk. Nu wordt ik 50 en voel me eigenlijk fantastisch. Jammer van het getal want ik ben nog lang niet moe en oud voel ik me allerminst. Het zal wel een raar biologisch trucje van je hersens zijn maar ik denk ‘het beste moet nog komen….’ en ik voel me vrijer en gelukkiger dan ooit. Liefde is ook pure chemie zeggen ze vaak. Maakt niet uit zolang het geloofwaardig voelt, prima toch. Er komt weer een zelfportret aan, ik heb nog een paar maanden de tijd want 24 augustus is het pas zover.

2020 stands, for me, next to Corona, in the theme of my 50th anniversary on planet earth. Suddenly, out of nowhere, my youth is over ( : When I became 30 I was in the midst of a coming of age- like burn out, when I became 40 I thought that the best years were left behind me. Decay seemed inevitabel. This self-portrait titled Gloomy & 40 is created in the spirit of this thought. With self irony of course. Now, I become 50 years of age, I feel fantastic. Despite of the number, I am not feeling old or over the hill yet. It is probably a great mindfuck but I sense great freedom and happiness, the best is still to come. They say, love is pure chemistry too. But I don’t care as long as it’s convincing to me, its just fine. There’s a new self-portrait on the horizon, a few months to go because 24th of August will be the day…..

Een kunstenaar maakt kunst, een schilder schildert. Of de drager nou canvas is, paneel, muur of huid. Eigenlijk kan je je overal in en op uitdrukken. In de beginjaren van mijn kunstenaarschap was er letterlijk veel ruimte om te spelen en te ontdekken. Ik deelde een tijd lang mijn atelier met Mark van Enk en Gina Draaisma. We werkten alle 3 solo maar deden veel samen. Wat de samenwerking en de vriendschap kenmerkte was dat we dingen creëren als een groot feest zagen, daar waren we grenzeloos in. Zo hebben we met de nodige kunst en vliegwerk de centrale hal van De Oude Ambachtsschool, Zwolle toen voorzien van de nodige ‘muur kunst’ (dat kon toen nog) Balancerend op zelfgebouwde steigers met parachutes als decoratie materiaal en rest verf van een bouwmarkt. Een aantal muurschilderingen zijn bewaard gebleven tijdens de renovatie, als aandenken aan die periode
Ook werkten we gezamenlijk aan 5 mei kunstprojecten van concept naar eindproduct.: https://maritotto.nl/5-mei-kunstprojecten/. Ook hierin gingen we ver. Zakelijk gezien waren we dan misschien niet de meest kiene types van de wereld, maar qua creativiteit voelde we ons rijk.
In die zelfde periode begon ik per toeval met bodypaint. De aanleiding was een uitvraag van ik geloof toen nog de EEG > posterontwerp met als thema ‘Europa Maken We Zelf’. Daarheen ik mee aan de slag gegaan. Het zelf maken heb ik heel letterlijk genomen: Ik heb een groep zwangere vrouwen gevraagd voor mij te poseren. Hun buiken beschilderd met alle Europese partner-landen. Zwanger van de Europese Unie. Na deze poster werd ik ineens gevraagd door zwangere vriendinnen om hun buiken ook te beschilderen. Dat heb ik een tijd lang gedaan. Van daaruit ben ik meer mensen gaan be-schilderen. Vrij serieus voor een poosje. Op deze foto zie je Gina en mij samen in een lijst gevat (die van mijn opa geweest is). De foto is gemaakt door Studio H. Het plezier is van onze gezichten af te lezen.

An artist makes art, a painter paints. It doen not matter on what kind of surface, either canvas, wood, wall or skin. An artist can express it self on almost anything. I my early years of becoming an visual artist there was plenty room for playing and discovering. I shared my working space with Mark van Enk En Gina Draaisma. We worked solo but collaborated a lot. What made this friendship significant was the great fun we experienced creating. Limitless. For example we made murals in the centre passage of The Oude Ambachtsschool, Zwolle. Not without risk. Like acrobats balancing on selfmade landing stages with parachutes as deco material and left over paint. Some of the paintings are still there, survived the renovation as a souvenir of that period.
We also collaborated @ various 5th of May art projects – from concept to product. We stretched our limits to create a cool artwork. Commercially, we were not the most clever ones, but we felt rich with our creativity.
In the same period I started more or less coincidental with bodypainting. The cause was an open call by the E.E.G. to create a poster with the theme : ‘We create Our Own Europe’. I started working on this theme and asked a group of pregnant women to pose for me. Proverbial pregnant of an United Europe. Afterwards pregnant friends started asking me to paint their belly’s as well. So I did this for a while before I started to paint more people. On this picture you see me with Gina framed together in an antique frame (of my grandfather) The picture is made by Studio H. It is obvious that we were having fun.

We kijken een serene, opgeruimde en goed gestylde huiskamer in. Deze huiskamer is bij nader inzien meer een showroom. Een showroom die zegt ” we hebben het goed voor elkaar”. Een mooi plaatje. esthetisch, ruimtelijk maar wat ontbreekt is contact en warmte.
Nu veel mensen noodgedwongen de dagen thuis doorbrengen zullen ze anders naar hun omgeving en contact kijken.
We witness a serene, cleane and a perfectly styled living room. this livingroom is on second sight more of a showroom. A showroom that states “the world is our oyster’ . A perfect picture, spacial and esthetically proof but what is missing is contact and warmth.
While a lot of people are stuck in their homes these days their forced to look differently to their surroundings and contacts.
Na de Apocalypse van gisteren vond ik het tijd voor een Exodus (2009). We zien een vlucht meeuwen. De aanleiding voor het maken van dit werk is een fotoserie die ik had gemaakt van meeuwen in allerlei vlieghoudingen en standen. Min of meer per ongeluk getroffen door de schoonheid van de vliegende meeuw. Ik weet nog waar het was; Pink beach, Bonaire. De meeuwen brutaal als altijd kwamen in grote getallen op het geritsel van een brood- cracker-chips zakje af en troggelde alles af wat ze konden krijgen. Irritant maar grappig. Het gaf me in ieder geval de gelegenheid ze goed te bekijken en vrij dichtbij te fotograferen. Later heb ik ze geformeerd zoals in dit doek (als een collage). Exodus is een titel die geen uitleg behoeft en die ook weer net als Apocalypse een bijbelse connotatie heeft. De vlucht meeuwen staan model voor het letterlijke vluchten en de enorme vluchtelingen stromen. Dit onderwerp gevat in een grote witte ruimte met vogels die zo ongeveer de belichaming zijn van vrijheid schuurt natuurlijk een beetje. Dat was ook precies de bedoeling, dat is de spanning die ik zoek.

After yesterdays Apocalypse I found it time for an Exodus (2009) We witness a swarm seagulls. The immediate cause for making this artwork was a photo series I made earlier of seagulls in all different positions. More or less accidentally struck by the beauty of the flying seagull. I stil know where it was; Pink beach Bonaire. The seagulls were cheeky as always and were drawn in large numbers to the noise of the cracking plastic bag of bread- cracker- chips and begged it away. Annoying but funny. It gave the opportunity to take a good up close look at them and to make pictures. Later on I molded it into the cluster we see on the canvas (like a collage). Exodus is a title that needs no clarification and has the same biblical connotation as Apocalypse. The swarm represents the litterary stream of refugees. This subject captured in large white open space with birds that represent freedom is a bit harsh. That is the tension I seek.

Apocalypse, om er maar even een vrolijke noot tussendoor te gooien ( : , is gemaakt in 2007. Rond die periode was vallen v.s vliegen een thema wat bijna overal wel in terug te vinden was. (eigenlijk nog). Vliegen is vrijheid, vallen is vrijheid met een onfortuinlijke afloop. What goes up must go down. We willen er niet aan maar het lijkt toch een natuurlijke wetmatigheid. Dat boeit me. Alle paradoxen waar de mensheid mee worstelt huizen ook in mij. Als er iets wringt, dwingt het me tot nadenken . En er wringt best wel veel. Vandaar ook mijn immer zonnige thema’s . De apocalypse is de titel van een prachtige film, maar vooral een grimmige voorspelling van het einde der tijden. What goes up must go down. Elk einde is een nieuw begin, vliegen is vallen met een onfortuinlijke afloop…Komt er ooit een apocalypse? we weten het niet. Zijn we hard op weg er zelf een te organiseren? dat denk ik soms wel. Om hier wat positiefs tegenover te stellen, er zijn misschien wel voortdurende mini apocalypsjes, als die voorgevallen is is er ook weer een schone lei om opnieuw mee te beginnen. Of met nieuwe ogen naar iets te kijken.

Apocalypse 2007 – An Artwork A Day- week 03- 08-04-20
Apocalypse, to be chipper for a change ( :, is made in 2007. Around this period Flying and falling was my theme (stil is) . Flying is freedom, falling is flying with an unfortunate out come. What goes up must go down. This seems to be a natural law. That fascinates me. All paradoxes of mankind are mine. as well. As something that wrenches inside, it forces me to think. And there is a lot that wrenches. The Apocalypse is the titel of a great movie but most off all a grim prediction about the end of times. What goes up must go down. Each end is a new beginning, Falling is falling with a unfortunate outcome. Wil there be an Apocalypse? We don’t know. Are we doing everything to get to that point? Maybe. To put some positive vibes on the contrary ; There may as well be constant mini apocalypses that we suffer, but then a clean slate could be the beautiful outcome of that.

In 2011 heb ik een dubbel expositie (Bij Arte Presente) gehouden met beeldhouwer Thijs Kwakernaak. Ego Display was de titel van deze expositie. De door ons zelf gestelde opdracht was elkaar te portretteren naar eigen inzicht. Zo heb van Thijs diverse portretten gemaakt waaronder 37 attitudes. Thijs, een beweeglijk persoon zowel fysiek als mentaal, heb ik in de attitudes neer gezet als de vele Thijssen die overdrachtelijk in hem huizen. Thijs heeft over mij een serie beeldhouwwerken gemaakt uit steen en hout. Zoals hij mij zag. Ik heb een periode vrij fanatiek geskeelerd langs met name de Ijsel-dijk in Zwolle. Daarbij passeerde ik steevast zijn huis. En zo heeft hij mij weergegeven, skeelerend (in de schaduw zie je wel echt iemand een schaats houding hebben) met kittige katten oortjes. De betekenis van de katten-oortjes ben ik helaas ook vergeten. Ik hoef er niet bij te vertellen dat het een vrije interpretatie betreft. Hoe dan ook, ik vond dit beeld prachtig en hij de Attitudes. We hebben geruild en de ‘Marit’ siert sinds dien mijn huis.

In 2011 I had a duo exhibition (@ Arte Presente) with sculpturer Thijs Kwakernaak. The exhibition was called Ego Display. The goal we had set for our selves was to portray each other. So I made several portraits of Thijs, amongst them 37 Attitudes. I portrayed Thijs, as a quick silver, both physical as mental, as all Thijs varieties possible. Thijs made a series of sculptures about me from stone & wood. As he saw me. For a while I was quiet a fanatic skater and I often passed his house @ the IJssel river in Zwolle This is how he portrayed mean action with spruce cat ears. Ik you take a closer look at the sculpture above, you could establish a actual skate position in the shade on the wall. Unfortunately, I forgot the meaning of the cat ears as well. It is needless to say that this portrait is a free interpetation. How ever, I loved this sculpture he made and he loved his Attitudes and we swapped. The ‘Marit’ holds a steady spot in my household ever since.

Een paar regels uit Is There Life On Mars van David Bowie. Van Bowie is bekend dat hij flarden tekst husselden en daar nieuwe teksten met mysterieuze en onnavolgabre inhoud van kneedde. Toch, even stil staand bij deze tekst lijkt het alsof Major Tom vanuit de ruimte (door de ogen van God) naar de wereld kijkt en het dagelijks leven wat zich daarop voltrekt aanschouwd alsof het een groot theater is. Wat misschien wel weer een link legt met de Goddelijke komedie van Dante. Maar Is there life on Mars? lijkt een zo gerechtvaardigde vraag. Of beter; is daar leven mogelijk? Nu ook nog een relevante vraag want de eerste Mars vluchtelingen hebben al een reservering. Mars, rood, doods en zuurstofarm, een aantrekkelijk alternatief? Ik denk het niet. Maar onze oude blauwe planeet lijkt bijna afgedragen en opgebruikt. Mijn idee zou zijn laat Mars lekker waar het hangt en investeer als die energie om iets leefbaar te maken maar gewoon hier, op onze eigen planeet.

A few lines from the song Is There Life On Mars by David Bowie. We know that Bowies style to make lyrics was to cut them up and toss them around before creating whole new mysterious and unparraleled lines. Still, If you analyse the lyrics a bit it seems that major Tom is looking from space (trough the eyes of God) and witnessing life on earth like it’s a great theatre. Like the divine Comedy by Dante? Maar Is there life on Mars?Or even better is life on Mars possible? It seems a righteous question. Nowadays a relevant one too because the first new -Martian refugees already made their reservations. But Mars, red, dead, and low on oxygen, appealing? I guess not. But our own old mother earth is worn out and exhausted. My idea would be; invest all the energy to travel to planet B in your old and own one, she deserves it.

Ik ben met deze serie begonnen om in mijn eigen behoefte te voorzien om mijn helden op een voetstuk te plaatsen. De helden die in deze serie ten tonele gevoerd gaan worden zijn helden die soms al een (bijna) heel leven mee gaan, die me hebben geïnspireerd, opgevoed en me vooral hebben laten zien dat je niet in een standaard mal hoeft te passen om je plek te kunnen vinden. Althans, zij waren voor mij het ultieme bewijs dat het beter was niet in een mal te passen. Veel aspecten van het leven heb ik (zeker als puber -jong volwassene) als benauwend of te sturend ervaren. Niet mijn opvoeding trouwens, ik mocht mijn eigen weg kiezen! Ik ben dan ook geboren in 1970. Ik weet niet of dat er iets mee te maken heeft maar het klinkt wel zo ( :
Fame: De artprint is een compilatie van diverse gemanipuleerde beelden, waaronder tweemaal David Bowie. In de linkerhoek zit Hunky Dory in de rechterhoek The Thin White Duke. Omgeven door de werelden waartussen gelaveerd moest worden uitgebeeld in de losgelagen rockster (featuring Jimmy Page > Led Zeppelin)en de boekhouder. Ik zal niet de enige zijn die Bowie een muzikaal en creatief genie vond. Toch voelt hij altijd een beetje als van mij. In ieder geval binnen de kaders van deze artprint. The world is missing an angel or at least a (black) star (man)

(English) Hereby I present my new digital art series in the making to you. The serie is called Helden (Heroes) and the first art print ‘Fame’
I started this serie to for fill my own need to put my personal heroes on a pedestal. The heroes on my ‘stage’ are with me for almost all my life, they inspired me, raised me and most important showed me that you not necessarily have to fit in a standard matrix to find your place in live. They were the ultimate proof that is was even better to not fit at all. I never succeeded fitting in any template, even if I tried, it is not given to me. I experienced that many aspects of live are to suffocating or conducting for me. Not my upbringing by the way, I was free to choose and find my own path.. I was born in 1970. Not sure of that got anything to do with it but it has this certain ring to it… ( :
Fame: The art print is a compilation of divers and manipulated images, amongst them Bowie twice. In the left corner we find Hunky Dory and in the right corner The thin White Duke. Both surrounded by the outskirts of worlds apart: The rockstar (featuring Jimmy Page > Led Zeppelin) and the bookkeeper. I shall not be the only one that recognize creative genius in this man but I kind of like to think I own him a little bit. Anyway within the borders of this art print, I do. The world is missing an angel or at least a (black) star (man)
