Plastic staat voor gemak en hygiëne. Het is een geniale uitvinding van Alexander Parkes 1841 (Parkesine > naar zich zelf vernoemd ). Inmiddels verdrinken we er in. Plastic People verwijst naar het plastic in of aan ons. Wat ooit als kinderspeelgoed en plastic gimmick begon; Barbie en Ken groeide in de 21e eeuw uit tot een tikje ordinair maar toch gewild schoonheidsideaal. Wie had dat ooit gedacht. Dat brengt me bij de volgende vraag; ‘worden we uiteindelijk zelf plastic in een plastic wereld?

Plastic People, (also a title of a track and album by Kraak & Smaak) is addressing to the plastic in and on us. What started out as toys and plastic gimmick; Barbie en Ken (see also painting ‘United States Of Mind’ 1999) developed into a tad vulgar but yet wanted beauty icon. Who would have guessed? Do we become plastic in a plastic world?.
