Exhibition Silence = Violence - 31-05-2026
Exhibition Silence = Violence – 31-05-2026

Silence = Violence is a group exhibition curated by Joyce Overheul.

I may be able to make my voice heard in my own country, but I have also been invited to participate in this exhibition with two critical artworks; Art- Video OOOOh WELL in collaboration with Ali Reza Tahoeni, and the pen drawing Heavenly Peace Revisited in collaboration with Ahmed Aldaalsa (Gaza) who’s drawings will be shown here as well.

About the exhibition

Critical voices are under pressure worldwide. In a time where a Third World War is closer than ever, more and more people are being silenced. Not only in dictatorial regimes, but also in countries like the Netherlands, where symbols such as a watermelon are labeled by politicians as a dog whistle for extremist ideology. By silencing people, the possibility of dialogue—and with it, the possibility of gaining insight into another person’s situation—is lost.

Kunstenaarsinitiatief DeLOODS invited artist Joyce Overheul to curate this exhibition featuring artists who cannot make their voices heard in their countries of origin. Voices from countries such as Iran, Syria, Palestine, Crimea, Hong Kong, Greece, and the United States, but also critical art from the Netherlands. For some artists, participation in their home country is so unsafe that they participate in the exhibition under an alias or anonymously.

Silence is one of the most powerful methods of exercising power over people. It is not without reason that the silent treatment exists, where people in relationships punish each other with silence. Sometimes silence is also a form of self-defense. For instance, in countries where the government has full control, and privacy is hard to come by, many people prefer silence to speaking out for their own safety. In this way, many people are silenced.

Here, in this exhibition, we make ourselves heard. We no longer accept the silence. We no longer accept that media such as newspapers and news broadcasts report too one-sidedly on genocide, war, and violence. That is why we speak out. For whoever remains silent consents, and thereby contributes to the suffering of a great many people.

The voices of the artists in this exhibition must be heard. And that is why we do not remain silent.

(ENG) Man carrying a load that is not his own.
Overlooked by history and reviewed in the future.
Insignificant proceeds significant and the other way around.
The weight of the load is unknown for those who travel light.

This drawing also marks a new series of paintings by the name Sublime Comedy.

I sometimes wonder: who is invading whom?

Who owns our shared, “God-given” space?

First, fences were built, then endless walls, until a boundless universe became a cramped space.

The protected golden domains are so restricted that only a narrow mind seems to fit in properly.

Choice is change. It never ends.

Once you have set out in a certain direction, you will never really know what might have happened had you chosen to go the other way.

Conscious choices, however uncertain and debatable, are better than thoughtlessly taking sides.

A special sales exhibition at MICKSART in Emmen, NL, by two artists from Gaza: Ahmed Aldaalsa and Hussain Al Jerjawi. They both depict, as artists, eyewitnesses and suffering subjects from the very start, the hopelessness, violence and dejection in a devastated Gaza.

The exhibition will run simultaneously with the Harvest exhibition from July 20 to November 9, 2025. In this exhibition some of my latest artworks will be on display as well: Speechless, Sea Of Tranquility and A Mans World (a work in progress).

W.I.P. (work in Progress)

Every cruelty against Gaza is a cruelty to all of us,
its a insult to everything I believe in, and what we have learned to believe in.

Every new day that people die by violence inflicted on them, you kill part of me, a part of us.
and everything we ever believed in.

Every new day that people suffer because of the medical aid that is deprived of them, sickens me.

Every new day people are starving because of the food you denied them, starves the concept of humanity
and everything we believed in.

Is this how you want to go down in history, is this your legacy ?
